WWI Eastern France Photos
Eastern France, The Lorraine and Meuse-Argonne Regions were a crucial theater of operations where some of the penultimate events of WWI occurred. Many French Military cemeteries dot the region.
This is northwest of Verdun, France.
This is the Montfaucon Butte and the American Memorial. This was a strategic point during the battle that began on September 26, 1918. It was a key objective for troops from Ohio and New York.
Above is the ruined church of Montfaucon village. After the war, the village was rebuilt below the heights. The open fields of the Meuse region are pretty and have many monuments for WWI events.
This is part of the US Meuse-Argonne Cemetery.
Ridges above the Meuse River, the final Allied position at the end of the war. This area is very different than the often discussed flat, wet region of Flanders that many Americans think of when considering WWI. The Meuse region is rolling with considerable elevation changes.

We were a little surprised to find so much diversity in architecture in the 6th Arrondisement of Paris. Unlike so many boulevards that feature the same mid-rise Beaux-Arts buildings, we saw a lot of Art Noveau facades here, including several entire streets. This design unity is one of the things that makes Paris so beautiful. Now, we will print some of these photos at: http://photominator.mydakis.com/guid/4bbc8bd0-396a-012b-f7c0-00163e294806/en/photo/upload
Luxembourg Gardens with toy sailboats.
Very interesting neo-Moorish / Arts and Crafts archtecture in the Observatory neighborhood above the Luxembourg Palace area of Paris.
